I designed the cover to be dynamic while also communicating stability and intentionality by carefully sizing and positioning the red band. The width of the left image to red band to right image has a precise ratio of 1:3:2.
Project Summary
This 33-page white paper was designed to be digital gated content for Ion Exhibits, a provider of portable exhibits and custom trade show displays. The client approached me with the text of the white paper and a rough design idea, and I developed that into a 5-page template after getting a feel for the brand's style.
The client approved the template on the first draft, and I proceeded to develop the rest of the white paper. We completed the project with one round of revisions.
I converted the cover and contents page photos to black and white so they do not compete with the overlaid text. The contents is interactive, bringing the reader to a specific section with a simple click.
Design Choices
Ion Exhibit's branding determined the color palette and font choice. The low-poly background featured in the bottom outside corner behind each page number was featured prominently in Ion Exhibit's older collateral. I incorporated this graphic with lower emphasis, and the geometric shapes inspired the triangles in the top corner of each new section and the beveled lower right corner of the contents boxes and callout boxes.
Four of the five main sections of the white paper followed a similar format with an introduction paragraph, sub-headers, and bulleted lists concluding each sub-section. This allowed the use of repeated design elements throughout the paper, bringing consistency and unity to the document as a whole.
Initially, I designed the case studies section with the same bulleted list format. However, the client requested greater emphasis on the case studies that would make them stand out from other pages.
I spread out each case study to take up a full page. I converted each bullet point into a box with an icon, header, and body text. The resulting design is consistent with the overall look of the document, but stands out with bold strips of color and eye-catching icons.
The client provided a 5-star review for the project and the following feedback:
"Maria did an excellent job with my project and I will hire her again."
