Project Summary
This instructional handbook for beginning drummers was designed as a digital download exclusive to the author's website. Priorities were clarity, simple and straightforward design, speedy production, and ease of home printing. Unlike a novel, this book included many subheaders, callout boxes, lists, and diagrams.
I began the layout with a single chapter to establish the design style, fonts, spacing, etc. I worked with the author to revise this sample until it matched his vision. Then I completed the full layout based on the established design.
The cover design was provided by the author.
We tried both serif and sans-serif fonts for the body text, and the author preferred the serif font I selected, Adobe Garamond Pro. We kept the headers and callout text in the sans-serif Libre Franklin to match the provided cover font.
The client gave a 5-star review for the project with the following comment:
"Maria did a great job on my book layout. She communicates well, is responsive and I highly recommend her."
